America’s 250th Anniversary
In 2026, the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary. This milestone invites us to reflect on the ideals of liberty, opportunity, and democracy that have shaped our nation. Each generation has helped move these ideals forward, and today’s students will play an important role in writing the next chapter of America’s story.
As a high schooler, you are part of the generation that will shape the future of our communities and our country.
Essay Question:
As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, what are you most grateful for about living in America? How have your experiences shaped your perspective, and how do you hope to contribute to strengthening our nation’s ideals and opportunities in the future?

Contest is open from March 17, 2026 - May 15, 2026.

Contestants must write an original essay with limited guidance from others.

Due to the number of entries received, only winners will be contacted with the results.

There is no entry fee for this contest.

The competition is open to all Livonia residents currently in high school.

Contestants may submit only one essay entry during each competition.

Essays must address the official contest prompt.

Essays must be less than 1,000 words.

Essays must be written in English.

Judging will be completed by a panel of qualified judges.

Judges will not discuss or compare essays until all essays have been judged.

Relatives of Livonia Anniversary Board and Committee Members are not eligible for this essay competition.

Prize amounts: 1st place - $5,000, 2nd place - $3,000 and 3rd place - $2,000
